Dear New Brighton Families,
We had such a fantastic week filled with energy and school spirit!
Our Terry Fox Run was a huge success. The weather turned out to be just right, and it was inspiring to see so many students challenging themselves to keep moving "no matter what," just like Terry did on his journey.
It was also wonderful to see everyone at our Meet the Teacher Open House on Thursday evening. The school was buzzing with excitement and great conversations. It’s always so special to see our community come together for events like this.
Mrs. Danyluk and the entire student body managed to keep a wonderful secret to surprise me at the start of our Terry Fox Run!
Some of you may know that during assemblies, each grade has a “walk-in” song that they chose as a group to enter the gym to. When we were discussing this idea, I mentioned to Mrs. Danyluk that I would pick Enter Sandman—a tradition inspired by the Virginia Tech football fans who play this song at the start of every home game. It’s something I’ve always wanted to experience in person.
Mrs. Danyluk took that little conversation and made it happen to kick off our assembly. Once all the students were seated, she started the song—and suddenly every student stood up, jumping to the beat with their hands in the air, cheering!
Not only was this surprise an amazing sight to see, but the fact that the students kept it a secret from me and even their homeroom teachers was an incredible feat.
Thank you to everyone involved for making the start of our Terry Fox Run so memorable!
A quick reminder:
There will be no school on Monday and Tuesday next week.
- Monday is a Professional Development (PD) Day.
- Tuesday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
We will be holding our Orange Shirt Day assembly on Thursday, October 2.
Please remember to wear orange on Thursday to honour and recognize the importance of this day.

A Huge Thank You!
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing parent volunteers who spent hours popping popcorn for our sale on Tuesday. Thanks to their time and dedication, we raised over $1,200 from popcorn sales alone, all going toward our Terry Fox donations.
Combined with our online donations and the contributions from yesterday’s run, we are now very close to reaching our goal of $2,800!
Donations are still coming in, and we’ll be sharing our final total next week. Thank you to everyone who has supported this important cause!
Lunch Supervision Program
If your student will not be staying at school for lunch, please email newbrighton@cbe.ab.ca with your student's name in the subject line. All students who stay at school for lunch must register for the 4-day lunch supervision Program in their PowerSchool account. They are located under the forms tab.
It is important to pick up your student on time
Supervision of our students ends at 3 pm Monday to Thursday and 12:30 on Fridays. We are unable to accommodate the supervision of students after that time. We appreciate your attention to this matter, as we have had numerous students being picked up late.
