Dear New Brighton Families,
It was another busy and exciting week at New Brighton School!
We began the week with a very successful lockdown practice in partnership with the Calgary Police Service. We are grateful for their support and guidance as we continue to practise our emergency procedures and ensure that our students and staff know what to do in the event of an emergency. While these practices can feel serious, they are an important part of keeping our school community safe and prepared. A big thank you to our students and staff for taking the practice seriously and following directions so well. CPS commented that we were one of the best schools they had been to this year.
Mr. Butt’s and Mrs. Deibert’s classes received a very special visit from two of history’s most famous figures—King Tut and Queen Cleopatra! The students had the opportunity to learn more about Ancient Egypt while getting a firsthand look at what life was like during the time of these legendary rulers. It was a fun and memorable way to bring history to life in our classrooms!
Our Terry Fox Run was another wonderful highlight of the week. It was fantastic to see our students out moving, supporting one another, and learning about Terry’s incredible legacy and his commitment to making a difference. Our donation link is still active, and we will release our totals next week. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event such a success!

We also loved welcoming so many families to our Meet the Teacher Open House Evening. It was wonderful to see our school filled with families, smiles and conversations. Building strong relationships between home and school is such an important part of creating a connected school community, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to join us.
A reminder that there will be no school on Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, honour Survivors and remember the children who never returned home.
We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful long weekend. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Thursday!
