Dear New Brighton Families,

If your child came home with a story about a hot air balloon landing in our school field—you heard right! On Thursday morning at 8:20, a balloon made an unexpected landing, greeting students as they arrived. It created lots of excitement (and great writing ideas!) for our classrooms. We are proud of how well our students listened and stayed at a safe distance while the balloon landed and was packed away.

Looking ahead, we have a busy and exciting week:

  • Scholastic Book Fair – Running Monday through Thursday
  • Popcorn Sale – Tuesday, Grade 5 students will be selling bags of popcorn for $2 each, with all proceeds donated to the Terry Fox Foundation
  • Terry Fox Run – Thursday morning, beginning with a warm-up assembly at 9:00
  • Coco Brooks Fun Lunch – Thursday Lunch
  • Meet the Teacher Open House – Thursday, 6:00–7:00 p.m.

We’re looking forward to seeing many of you at these events, and thank you for your ongoing support of our school community!

Terry Fox Run

We are excited to host our annual Terry Fox Run this Thursday at 9:00 a.m. We’ll begin in the gym with a short assembly, followed by the run around our school field starting between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m.

Parents are welcome to join us for both the assembly and the run. If you plan to participate or watch as a spectator, please ensure you have a current CBE volunteer clearance on file.

School Apparel Store Now Open Online   

New Brighton School Apparel is now available to order online by clicking here. All orders made in the next 16 days will have free delivery. The orange NBS Every Child Matters t-shirt will also be sold through the online store, with all profits from the sale of those t-shirts going to the Orange Shirt Society. The Orange Shirt orders must be in by September 19 to be delivered for Orange Shirt Day on September 26th.

Open House – Meet the Teacher
📅 Date: September 25, 2025
🕕 Time: 6:00–7:00 p.m.

We’re excited to welcome you into our school for an evening of connection and learning! Each classroom teacher will share a short 15-minute presentation about the year ahead. To make it easier for families with more than one child, presentations will be repeated three times.

Here’s how the evening will run:

  • 6:00–6:15 – Session 1
  • 6:20–6:35 – Session 2
  • 6:40–6:55 – Session 3

💡 You’ll have 5 minutes between sessions to move to your next classroom.

We look forward to seeing you there and sharing what’s ahead for an exciting school year!

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to New Brighton Sept 22-25/25!!  Stop by and explore the fantastic collection of Scholastic books - up to 50% of the funds raised will go towards purchasing books for our school library.  

The fair will be open to the students Monday - Thursday during school hours, as well as during the Open House on Thursday night.

Students who have library on Monday will preview on Monday and can purchase on Tuesday. Students who have library on Wednesday will preview on Wednesday and can purchase on Thursday.

🍕 Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches

  • Our next Fun Lunch will be Coco Brooks Pizza on Thursday, September 25th.
  • Last call to order! Deadline is Saturday, September 20th at midnight.
  • If your child is absent, please contact the school office by 1:00 PM to arrange pick-up of their lunch.

👉 A quick note: We choose our Healthy Hunger distributors based on popularity with students, reliable organization of deliveries, and establishments that can provide hot meals for students to enjoy. That said, we’re always open to feedback and happy to discuss other options if families have preferences!
