Dear New Brighton Families,

As you may know, teachers across the province will be participating in strike action beginning on Monday, October 6, 2025. This means that classes at New Brighton School will be cancelled, and the school will be closed to students for the duration of the strike.

We recognize that there are many questions surrounding the pending ATA job action and what it may mean for your children and their education. What I can assure you is that, once this situation is resolved and the teachers of New Brighton School return to work, we will do everything possible to support your children. Our focus will be on minimizing the impact of potential learning disruptions and doing our best to reduce student anxiety while attending to their overall well-being and mental health.

Families should have received a separate email from the Calgary Board of Education on Wednesday that included some information about the pending job action.  Some of the key points from that communication are as follows:

  • All school field trips and extracurricular activities will be suspended or cancelled.
  • Access to D2L and Google Classroom will be turned off for staff.
  • Most childcare/daycare facilities located in CBE schools will continue to operate.
  • After-hours public rentals in schools will continue.
  • Fees paid at the school for activities that have been cancelled may be adjusted once the strike concludes.
  • The Alberta government has made financial and learning resources available to families:
  • We value the contributions of all employees who support student success, and we respect the bargaining process.

We are committed to keeping you informed as the situation evolves. If anything changes before Oct. 6, families will be informed. The most up-to-date information can also be found on the labour action page.

Please note that during the strike, teachers and school administration will not have access to their emails. The Calgary Board of Education will provide updates through the CBE labour action page website as soon as new information is available. You can also follow along to the media for the most up to date information.

We understand this creates challenges for families and truly appreciate your patience and understanding. While we are not able to send home schoolwork during this time, we encourage children to spend the day reading, creating, or being active.

We had originally sent out dates for the end of the month, but to be safe, we will hold off on all Healthy Hunger lunches until we hear more information about a return to school.
