Dear New Brighton Families,
It has been another great week at New Brighton School! On Friday morning, our students enjoyed a high-energy Bhangra dance performance that brought excitement, movement, and cultural learning to our school. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to experience and appreciate this vibrant dance tradition!
A huge thank you to our Parent Council for funding this Bhangra dance residency and making this special experience possible for our students. Your generosity and continued support help us provide meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for our school community, and we truly appreciate it!
A quick reminder that Monday is a Professional Development (PD) Day, and there will be no school for students. Our school will also be used as a polling station, so if you are eligible to vote, please take the time to get out and make your voice heard!
We have also had several students go home sick recently, and we would like to remind families to please keep children home when they are unwell. Keeping sick children at home helps limit the spread of illness and keeps our school community healthier. Thank you for helping us look after one another!
Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful long weekend, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday!
🎃 The Great Pumpkin Event Is Back!
New Brighton School is excited to host our Fifth Annual Great Pumpkin Event! This fun fall tradition encourages students and their families to spend time together creating and decorating a pumpkin to display in our school gathering space.
This year’s event will take place on Friday, October 3. Students are invited to bring their decorated pumpkins to school on Thursday morning through the front doors. Our pumpkins will be displayed for everyone to admire, and classes will have the opportunity to view and judge the creative entries throughout the day.
Pumpkins will be judged in the following categories:
- Scariest
- Funniest
- Best Scene
- “It’s Not a Pumpkin” Pumpkin
- Decorated, Not Carved
We ask that all pumpkins be taken home after school on Tuesday. Any pumpkins left behind will be discarded to prevent unwanted messes or odours.
We look forward to seeing the creativity and imagination of our New Brighton families! Start brainstorming your ideas, gather your supplies, and get ready to create a Great Pumpkin! 🎃
Fees
Central fees will be posted directly to students’ PowerSchool accounts. These fees include the student supply fee, noon supervision fee, and school bus fees for students who ride the bus daily. These fees are assigned to student accounts centrally by the CBE.
Staying for Lunch
Students are not required to remain at school during the lunch period. However, Grade 1–6 students and full-day kindergarten students who stay at school for lunch are required to be registered for the CBE’s noon supervision service.
Students in these grades must be supervised during the lunch period. The noon supervision fees help cover the costs associated with providing this service. For more information, please review Administrative Regulation 3048 – Noon Services and the Education Act.
If you have not yet registered your student for noon supervision, please visit the CBE’s step-by-step registration instructions for assistance.
If your student will not be going home for lunch, please email Mrs. McMaster at smmcmaster@cbe.ab.ca to let us know.
Donations Needed: Backup Pants
We are looking for donations of boys’ pants to keep at school for students who may need a change of clothing during the day. If you have any gently used or new pants that you are willing to donate, we would greatly appreciate your support!
We are especially in need of the following sizes: 5, 6, 6X, 7, 10 and 12.
Thank you for helping us ensure we have extra clothing available for our students when needed. Your generosity is always appreciated
