Dear NBS Families,

This week was certainly an interesting one here at NBS! Some of you may have spotted Mrs. Barr, myself, and “Gary” the goose, who apparently decided he wanted to become a Grade 4 student during PE classes this week.

As geese can sometimes be aggressive, we stepped in to help guide him away from the students. This proved to be quite the challenge, as Gary seemed very determined to stay with the children. Along the way, he even attempted to join our kindergarten students at the playground!

Fortunately, we quickly realized that Gary was not aggressive at all — he was simply looking for some company. He happily followed along behind us as we took him on a walk all the way to the pond. After a few strategic maneuvers, we were eventually able to guide him back to a more suitable goose-friendly environment.

Needless to say, taking a goose for a walk was definitely not something we expected to add to our day when we arrived at school that morning!

A reminder that tomorrow, Friday, May 15th, is a PD Day, and Monday, May 18 in Victoria Day, so there will be no school for students.

Family Inline Skate Night – May 21st!

We are excited to invite all New Brighton School families to our Family Inline Skate Night on May 21st!

Information on how to purchase tickets was sent home with students and can be found by clicking here. We hope you can join us for a fun evening of skating and community connection.

A few important reminders:

  • All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Inline skates and protective equipment will be provided for both students and parents/guardians.
  • A small concession will be available, with beverages and snacks for purchase.
  • Personal skates are not permitted in the school. The skates provided by Alien Inline are specially designed for indoor use and have wheels that are safe for our gym floor while also providing the proper traction for participants.
  • Families are welcome to bring their own protective gear (such as helmets, wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads) if preferred over the equipment provided.
  • All participants are required to wear a helmet and protective gear while skating.

We look forward to seeing many of our families out for what promises to be a fun and active evening together!

School field trip fees

We are asking for your support in ensuring that all outstanding school field trip fees are paid as soon as possible. At this time, our school has over $3,000 in unpaid field trip fees. When fees remain unpaid at this level, the school must absorb the cost, which can impact our ability to offer the same number and quality of field trips in the future. If this trend continues, we may need to reduce field trip opportunities next year.

Please take a moment to log in to your PowerSchool account to check if you have any outstanding fees. Below is a summary of the current unpaid totals by trip:

  • Kindergarten – Teachers' Pet Birdhouses: $170.00
  • Grade 1 – Ann & Sandy Cross: $157.50
  • Grade 2 – Bow Habitat: $147.00
  • Grade 2 – Teacher’s Pet: $420.50
  • Grade 3 – SAM Centre: $273.00

  • Grade 4 – Telus Spark: $126.00
  • Grade 4 – Teacher’s Pet: $395.25
  • Grade 5 – Rothney Observatory: $176.00
  • Grade 5 – Be Brave Hitmen: $306.00
  • Grade 5 – Camp Kindle Deposit: $500.00

Total Outstanding Fees: $3,040.25

We understand that circumstances can vary for families. If you require support or need to make alternative payment arrangements, please do not hesitate to contact the school office—we are here to help.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for supporting these valuable learning experiences for our students.
