Dear NBS Families,
To say we had a busy week here at NBS would be a massive understatement!
Every class enjoyed multiple visits to the splash park, while our Grade 5 students had an incredible week that included two community walks, a virtual visit to the International Space Station in our gathering space, and a trip to the Calgary Farmyard. Next week, they will be heading to see Toy Story 5 and will participate in a Fitset Ninja experience at the school.
Our Grade 1 students put on a wonderful performance for their families on Monday and then enjoyed a field trip to the Science Centre on Thursday. Meanwhile, our Grade 4 classes explored the beautiful Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area, and our Kindergarten students celebrated an important milestone with their Graduation Celebration.
As if that wasn't enough, we wrapped up the week with another amazing Sports Day. A huge thank you to Mrs. Danyluk for organizing such a memorable event. As always, she went above and beyond to create a fantastic experience for our students. We are also incredibly grateful to our parent volunteers, whose support helped make the day such a success.
On Friday afternoon, we welcomed students who will be joining NBS for the first time next year. Our New Student Orientation gave them an opportunity to tour our beautiful school, meet staff, and become familiar with their new surroundings before August 31st.
Thank you to our staff, students, and families for making this such a successful and memorable week. It is wonderful to see so much learning, celebration, and community happening both inside and outside our school.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I am heading home to catch up on some sleep this weekend!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Patrick Murphy
Staffing Update for 2026-2027
As we begin planning for next year, I wanted to share several staffing updates with everyone.
First, we will be saying goodbye to a number of valued members of our team. While we will certainly miss them, we are excited for the opportunities ahead and wish them every success in their new roles:
- Kendra Robertson has accepted the Area 5 Strategist position.
- Laura Allen will be moving to Greece.
- Sarah Janzen has accepted a new position with CBE Therapy Services.
- Cristina Dyler has accepted a position at Pineridge School.
- Katie Waldner will be beginning her maternity leave.
Each of these individuals has made significant contributions to our school community, and we are grateful for the impact they have had on our students, staff, and families. We wish them all the very best in their next adventures.
At the same time, we are pleased to welcome several new staff members to our team:
- Adam Barker – Grade 5 Teacher
- Emily Smith – Grade 4 Teacher
- Meaghan Cautley – Grade 4 Teacher
- Brenna Serpico – Grade 2 Teacher
Please join me in welcoming them to NBS.
New Brighton School Used Book Sale
New Brighton School will be hosting our fourth annual used book sale for students from June 23rd until June 25th. Our school will be collecting gently used children’s books that are appropriate for children aged 5 to 11. Families can start bringing in used books starting Monday morning. Below are some guidelines regarding book donations:
- Please make sure books are appropriate for children aged 5-11. This includes picture books and chapter books.
- Books need to be in good, used condition. This means no rips or stains.
- There is no limit to how many books can be donated. Students can either bring books into the classroom or donate them in a book bin at the front entrance each morning until June 20th.
On June 23rd to 25th, students at New Brighton School will be given the opportunity to purchase books from our used book sale. Books will all be priced at $1 each. If you wish to have your child purchase a book, please send money in with your child in a small Ziploc bag on June 23 and 24 (ideally with their name labelled on it). The money collected will be used within the school to support student learning and will be used for new resources within the library.
Thank you for your support with New Brighton’s used book sale. We appreciate your support and book donations.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found items will be donated on June 26th. To help assist in getting these items back to their proper homes, we will move the items outside onto tables and racks at the front of the school starting Monday.
Financial update: Fees outstanding
As our year comes to an end, we would like to deal with our outstanding school fees as they will be carried forward out of next year's budget. We know how much the students love these out-of-school experiences and want to continue doing them. We will, however, need to limit how many trips they can go on if fees are not paid in a timely manner.
