Dear NBS Families,
It’s been a very busy and exciting week here at NBS! Our Grade 5 students were away at Outdoor School from Monday to Thursday, while our Grade 4 students enjoyed a trip to Heritage Park. In addition, two of our Grade 1 classes spent the day exploring Ralph Klein Park yesterday.
To top it all off, we hosted our new student orientation this afternoon and were thrilled to welcome students who will be joining the NBS community next year.
A big thank you goes out to our amazing parent volunteers—your support makes these field trip experiences possible!
Looking ahead to next week, we’re hoping for cooperative weather so that students can take advantage of the splash park next door during their Physical Education classes.
New Brighton School Used Book Sale
New Brighton School will be hosting our third annual used book sale for students. From June 16th until June 20th, our school will be collecting gently used children’s books that are appropriate for children aged 5 to 11. Families can start bringing in used books starting Monday morning. Below are some guidelines regarding book donations:
- Please make sure books are appropriate for children aged 5-11. This includes picture books and chapter books.
- Books need to be in good, used condition. This means no rips or stains.
- There is no limit to how many books can be donated. Students can either bring books into the classroom or donate them in a book bin at the front entrance each morning until June 20th.
On June 23rd and 24th, students at New Brighton School will be given the opportunity to purchase books from our used book sale. Books will all be priced at $1 each. If you wish to have your child purchase a book, please send money in with your child in a small Ziploc bag on June 23 and 24 (ideally with their name labelled on it). The money collected will be used within the school to support student learning and will be used for new resources within the library.
Thank you for your support of New Brighton’s used book sale. We appreciate your support and book donations.
Transportation Registration for Eligible Families
All students who are eligible for yellow school bus transportation would have received an email in early May with details on registration and proposed fees for 2025-26. For those families who are eligible, please register as soon as possible. If you are wondering if you are in the bus zone, please use the information and links below.

Yearbook – Still a few left for sale!
We still have a few extra yearbooks for sale in the office for any families that did not order one. Each yearbook is $35, and if you are interested, please email the school smmcmaster@cbe.ab.ca .
Library Books – Due back next week
Our library has officially closed for signing out books, and we are asking for all books to be returned next week. Mrs. Gall has a lot of work to do to get all of the books inventoried and ready to go for next year.
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found has grown considerably since January, when we last donated unclaimed items to charity. We will be putting all Lost and Found items on display outside the front of the school during the last week of classes. We encourage parents to take a look when dropping off or picking up their child.
Reminder to Pay Your Fees
If you haven’t reviewed your myCBE account recently, we kindly ask that you take a moment to log in and check for any outstanding fees. This is the platform where families pay for school field trips and activities.
Currently, we have over $2,000 in unpaid or late payments. Please note that field trips and activities are cost-neutral, meaning the school does not make a profit from them. If unpaid fees continue to accumulate, we may be forced to limit the number of trips and activities offered throughout the year.
If you need assistance accessing your myCBE account, you can click hereor contact our office at 403-817-3516.
Field Trips and Fun Lunches
We have several field trips scheduled during the final month of school, and some of these overlap with our Fun Lunch dates. If you’re planning to order Fun Lunch for your child, please double-check their schedule to ensure they will be at school that day.
Please note the following:
- Grade 1 students from Chen and Russell’s classes are going to Ralph Klein Park on June 19 and will also miss Fun Lunch.

If you’ve already placed an order and your child will be away, you may contact Healthy Hunger to cancel the order or arrange to pick up the lunch at the school before 1:00 p.m. Please keep in mind that we do not have space to refrigerate unclaimed lunches.
Thank you for your understanding!
Are You Moving?
Families or individual children who will not be returning to New Brighton School for the 2025-2026 school year are requested to let the school know as soon as possible by calling the office at 403-817-3516 ext. 0. Informing the school of your intentions to transfer will facilitate the smoothest transition possible.
