Dear Families,

Welcome back to school and welcome to 2026! We certainly had a cold start to the week and even experienced our first Polar Bear Club Recess before temperatures warmed up.

This is a great time to remind families that on Blue Days (when temperatures fall below -20°C), students are encouraged to enter the building through the closest entrance as they arrive at school. Designated entrance doors are used on regular days when temperatures are warmer than -20°C.

We also ask families to please avoid having students arrive before 8:15 a.m., when school doors open. We have noticed many students arriving early during this cold weather, which can create very dangerous situations. At temperatures below -20°C, frostbite can begin on exposed skin within minutes, so even arriving a minute or two early can pose a serious risk.

We understand that pick-up at the end of the day can be challenging during cold weather. If a parent is delayed, students are encouraged to come directly to the office so they can wait safely inside. If you know you are running behind, please contact the office to let us know—this helps us avoid trying to reach you during an especially busy time of day.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep all students safe during these winter conditions.

Warm regards,
Patrick Murphy
