Dear NBS Families,

This was our last full five-day week for a little while, with the Teacher’s Convention coming up next Thursday and Friday, followed by Family Day on Monday, February 16. In addition, Friday, February 27 is a PD Day, meaning there will be no school for students.

Next week will be a short but busy one. We will kick things off with an Olympic-themed assembly on Monday morning, launching Mrs. Danyluk’s two weeks of Winter Olympic events in PE classes. We will also have our Toonie Tuesday popcorn sale, and our Grade 5 classes will be heading to the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory on Tuesday and Wednesday. I’m eager to have them explain to me exactly what an astrophysical observatory is when they return!

Lost and Found Notice

Our Lost and Found is overflowing, and students often forget what belongs to them. Please remind your student to check the Lost and Found for any missing items. Keep in mind that all students pass by the Lost and Found at least once a day, if not more frequently.

If possible, we encourage you to take a moment during drop-off or pick-up to look through the Lost and Found yourself for any items your family might be missing. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity after the Family Day long weekend, so please make time to check before then.

As a helpful reminder, labelling your belongings is the best way to ensure lost items are returned quickly. Thank you for your cooperation!

Kindergarten Registration for September 2026

Kindergarten registration opened on January 12, 2026.  Registration is NOT first come first served.  Everyone who submits a completed registration form online will be eligible for the kindergarten for the 20026-2027 school year. Typically, New Brighton School holds a random draw for AM/PM placement preference as our AM classes usually have higher demand, and we need to balance our student numbers between the morning classes and afternoon classes. To be in the draw for AM/PM preferences, you will need to have your registration completed before the draw date which is March 19, 2026. All registrations after March 19, 2026, will be placed in PM classes.

For more information about kindergarten registration, please see the CBE registration guide by clicking here.
