Dear NBS Families,

What a difference a week makes in Calgary’s weather! In just three days, our school field transformed from snow and ice to mud and water, and now to soggy grass. With these rapidly changing conditions, we’d like to remind parents to ensure students are wearing appropriate footwear. Many students ended up outside in running shoes during the wet and muddy days, which led to some very soggy feet!

This time of year also brings cool mornings and warmer afternoons. Students often start the day bundled up, only to shed jackets and hoodies as temperatures rise. Unfortunately, “taken off” often means “left behind,” and our Lost and Found is filling up quickly. Please label your child’s clothing and swing by the school to check the Lost and Found for any missing items. We’ll also have items on display during Parent-Teacher Conferences.

On Wednesday, our grade five students had an exciting opportunity to attend the Be Brave Hitmen game at the Saddledome. It sounds like the game was action-packed, and our students had a fantastic time while supporting the important anti-bullying message. A big thank you to Mrs. Danyluk for organizing this memorable experience and to all the parent volunteers who helped out. With a large venue like the Saddledome, every extra set of hands makes a big difference!

CUPE Local 40 Job Action

  • As you are likely aware, CUPE Local 40 members have served strike notice to the Calgary Board of Education
  • The union, which includes school facilities and cleaning staff, are set to withdraw services beginning Monday, February 24
  • Information to families regarding the strike action will be communicated centrally by the CBE – not by individual schools
  • The information below is messaging from the Calgary Board of Education regarding the pending strike action:
    • The CBE is prioritizing in-person learning – all CBE schools and buildings will remain open and classes will continue
    • However, a strike will have an impact on schools and operations
    • We are committed to ensuring schools remain a place where students, staff and families feel valued, supported and safe
    • CUPE Local 40 members are an important part of our school communities
    • We value the contributions of all employees who support student success, and we respect the bargaining process
    • We are committed to bargaining in good faith to reach a new collective agreement
  • The following link will take you to extensive information and updates regarding the strike: CBE Labour Action Page
