Dear NBS Families,

It’s been another eventful week at NBS! Mrs. Deibert’s Grade 5 class had an out-of-this-world experience—literally—as they won an in-school Virtual Reality field trip that took them into space and on a tour of the International Space Station. I had the chance to try it myself and can say firsthand how amazing it was. The setup was in our gathering space, and with the headsets and interactive remotes, it truly felt like you were floating through space and exploring the ISS. Mrs. Deibert entered a draw at Teacher’s Convention and was the lucky winner. Considering the experience normally costs $24 per student, it was definitely a lucky day for her class!

Today marked our fifth fire drill of the year, and our students did an outstanding job evacuating quickly and staying quiet throughout. It was by far our best drill yet—we're so proud of how well everyone did. We’ll have one more before the end of June to meet the required six drills for the school year.

A quick heads-up: NBS will serve as a polling station for the federal election on Monday. While we’ve added extra safety measures to ensure the public stays separate from our students, parking will likely be more limited than usual. If possible, Monday would be a great day to walk or bike to school to help ease the congestion.

Grade 5 Fundraising

The Grade 5 team and students are diligently working to raise funds to help reduce the cost of attending an exciting week at Camp Chief Hector this June. To help lower costs for all families and provide financial assistance to those in need, we will be organizing a variety of fundraising activities at school.

Our, "Toonie Tuesdays at NBS! Popcorn Fundraisers" have been a huge success thanks to the efforts of our parent volunteers, who have spent hours popping hundreds of bags of popcorn. This will continue for the next two Tuesdays. Grade 5 students will be selling bags of delicious popcorn during both Division 1 and Division 2 lunchtimes, with the goal of raising additional funds! Our kindergarten students will also be given a chance to purchase a bag during their time at school on Tuesday.

Grade 3 Assembly

We are excited to share with you that you are invited to the Grade 3 singing assembly on Friday, May 2nd.  This assembly will be taking place before we head on our field trip to the McKenzie Towne Retirement home.  Please join us Friday morning at 8:45 am in our school gym to listen to your child(ren) sing a few songs. This assembly will be approximately 25 minutes in length.

We are super excited to have you in the audience!

If you have any questions, please email me at jclysak@cbe.ab.ca

Thank you

Ms. Lysak
